Senior Structural Engineer

The Senior Structural Engineer performs analysis of building materials for use in construction. Designs load-bearing structures or structural elements, such as buildings, bridges, or roadways. Being a Senior Structural Engineer determines cause of structural failures, damages, and defects through site investigations. Develops blueprints or specifications for use during construction and ensures all projects comply with applicable codes and regulations. In addition, Senior Structural Engineer provides reports detailing investigations and assessment of damages to the structure. Requires a bachelor’s degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Working as a Senior Structural Engineer typically requires 4 to 7 years of related experience. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.

Our company is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaising and coordinating with clients and architects with regard to project related matters;
  • Conceptual and detailed design of a wide range of structures including education, aged care, retail, health and commercial;
  • Mentoring junior members of the structural team;
  • Identifying new work opportunities and prepare proposals;
  • Support junior engineers and designers;
  • Undertaking structural design tasks from concept through to construction;
  • Checking designs completed by others;
  • Produce cost effective Structural engineering reports, documents and deliverables for inclusion in workpacks;
  • Manage a number of small to medium projects concurrently including junior staff supervision;
  • Managing projects including drafters and engineers of other disciplines; and;
  • Produce structural design and manage documentation with limited supervision by senior staff;
  • Ensure as far as practically possible all assigned work is carried out in compliance with agreed budget and schedule;
  • Contribute to the management of the structural group;
  • Liaise and coordinate with project managers, architects and other external consultants;
  • You will be responsible for the preparation of reports and designs from architects and draughtsman, ensuring these are met to requirements.

Requirements:

  • Experience of working in a brownfields environment;
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications;
  • Experience in the use of API, AISC and ISO design codes;
  • Experience in Offshore site environment and site surveying/scoping;
  • Knowledge of and experience in AS1170, 4100, 3600;
  • Experience in the use of SACS, StaadPro software packages;
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet key deadlines;
  • Tertiary qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering with the following experience preferred;
  • Effective time management skills and ability to prioritise;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with the client;
  • Extensive experience as a Structural Engineer with 5+ years in the Australian O&G sector;
  • Ability to use Space Gass;
  • 8+ years experience of structural design in the minerals processing industry;
  • Bachelor of Civil/Structural Engineering;
  • 3 – 7 years’ experience as a Structural Engineer.
