Scientist (Cytogenomics) – Genomic Diagnostics

Genomic Diagnostics is the national genomics laboratory for Healius Pathology. We provide comprehensive genomic testing, spanning reproductive health, inherited disease, oncology, and pharmacogenomics to an extensive network of public and private hospitals and community referrers across Australia. Our primary focus is to provide high quality and timely genomic information to assist in diagnosis and clinical decision-making.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity is now available for a qualified Cytogenetic Scientist at Genomic Diagnostics. This role offers an opportunity to advance your career in a collaborative, supportive and quality-focused team environment. Through training and mentorship, you will be able to further develop your genomics knowledge and skills in cytogenomic diagnostics.

Duties:

Working as part of a collaborative team, on a comprehensive range of routine testing in all aspects of our laboratory’s cytogenomic pathology service
Specimen preparation, culturing, harvesting, analysis and reporting of post-natal/constitutional, haematology-oncology and/or prenatal samples by conventional cytogenetic, FISH (including FFPE) and/or microarray technology
Perform designated testing procedures as outlined in methods and procedures, ensuring adherence to NPAAC/NATA ISO15189 requirements.
Participation in internal and external quality assurance programs.
Participation in continuing education.
Liaise with internal and/ or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
Collaborate with clinical laboratory members to in develop, validate, and implement genomic assays into a diagnostic setting, as per NPAAC/NATA ISO15189 requirements.

About You

A Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or an equivalent qualification.
Recognised professional qualification in Clinical Cytogenetics (e.g., MHGSA) or equivalent
Experience in cytogenomic testing including conventional, FISH and microarray technologies for all tissue types
A high level of attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and accountability.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Able to work as part of a collaborative team and contribute to team performance.
Knowledge of quality assurance systems and scientific instrumentation and equipment
Awareness of Workplace Health and Safety processes and procedures
