Speech Pathologist

The Speech Pathologist evaluates speech and language skills as related to educational, medical, social, and psychological factors. Diagnoses and treats speech and language problems, and engages in scientific study of human communication. Being a Speech Pathologist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, cognitive, communication, voice, swallowing, fluency, and other related disorders. Plans, directs, or conducts rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication problems of organic and nonorganic etiology. In addition, Speech Pathologist maintains records, monitors progress, and counsels patients and their family members. May require a certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology (CCC). Requires a master’s degree of speech-language pathology. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Speech Pathologist’s years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position’s specialty is the main requirement.

Our company is looking for a Speech Pathologist to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Be an active member of multi-disciplinary teams to provide appropriate, effective and coordinated patient/ client care;
  • Maintain adequate documentation and statistical records in accordance with departmental policies and standards;
  • Act as a resource for, and liaise with, referring agents, team members and other stakeholders regarding individual patients/clients;
  • Assess, diagnose and treat clients with communication and swallowing disorders, providing relevant and timely written reports as required;
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with NDIS participants and their families;
  • Demonstrate proficient assessment and measurement skills, including collection of client information and selection of appropriate assessment tools;
  • Ensure that organisational benchmark’s are met in accordance to customer expectations and participant caseload allocation;
  • Degree or diploma in Applied Science, Speech Pathology or equivalent and eligibility for practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia;
  • Acting as a specialist resource to management on all matters pertaining to the provision of NDIS Speech Pathology services within the organisation.

Requirements:

  • Voice disorders;
  • Current and full registration with SPA and AHPRA;
  • Language difficulties;
  • Augmentative or Assistive Communication systems;
  • Stuttering;
  • Pragmatics/social skills;
  • Current First Aid certificate, Working with Children Check, NSW Driver’s Licence and own car (car allowance paid);
  • Commitment to providing quality services and care to children and adults with a disability;
  • An understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and the Quality & Safeguarding Commission would be a huge advantage;
  • Open and creative mindset – new and innovative ideas are encouraged;
  • A Bachelor or Post Graduate degree in Speech Pathology and eligibility for certified practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia;
  • Degree qualified in Speech Pathology;
  • Experience in the assessment, planning and monitoring of interventions in the areas of communication, mealtime management and eating;
  • Please note: This position requires a high level of independence and is therefore not suited to a new graduate;
  • Experience undertaking evidenced based clinical assessments and providing therapeutic interventions to meet client needs.
