Head of Effects Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Head of Effects to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure your department is producing work as efficiently as possible, meeting the creative briefs and completing effects at the highest standard;
- Work closely with team leads and supervisors to determine downstream delivery requirements;
- Create, manage, support and supervise key aspects of the effects pipeline in the following areas; effects simulation, and effects look development;
- Work with production to create technical solutions to ensure deadlines are met in accordance to resource parameters;
- Work closely with the production management team on setting delivery schedules and quality standards;
- Delegate work and responsibilities to team seniors as required;
- Provide clear briefs and daily feedback to your team;
- In collaboration with the pipeline group, drive and prioritise requirements for pipeline development and work flow enhancement;
- Actively mentor and develop all team members under your supervision;
- Promote a collaborative and enjoyable workplace influencing morale, discussion and work ethic;
- Run team dailies and set one-on-one meetings;
- Define department structure; work with the Head of 3D and Recruitment to determine hire needs.
Requirements:
- Expert user of production ready software including Houdini, Arnold, Mantra, and Nuke. RSP operates in a Linux system environment;
- Superior level of attention to detail and strong eye for aesthetic composition;
- Minimum 7 years senior/lead effects experience;
- Technical and creative problem solving with a can-do mindset;
- Natural problem solving and lateral thinking skills;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Expert people management/leadership and organisational skills;
- Complete understanding of naturalistic light and motion with a focus on dynamic and natural phenomenon;
- Strong scripting experience using Python;
- Visual Effects, Fine Art, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics or related tertiary qualification may be required for international applicants;
- Real world understanding of physics, math, movement, proportion, depth, scale, colour, and physical space;
- Maintain a calm and professional demeanour in a deadline focused work environment.
