Job Closure date: 30 days About the Role: We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a meticulous and experienced Carpenter with specialized expertise in fine cabinetmaking and custom joinery. This is a full-time, permanent position based in their modern Arundel workshop. The successful candidate will be integral to transforming architectural concepts into tangible, heirloom-quality installations. You will report directly to the Workshop Foreman and collaborate with a team of dedicated craftspeople and designers. Key Duties & Responsibilities: Design Interpretation & Material Preparation:

  • Accurately analyse and interpret detailed technical drawings, CAD designs, and shop plans for custom cabinetry, complex joinery, and freestanding furniture.
  • Plan and sequence the workflow, meticulously selecting appropriate timber species, veneers, laminates, and composite materials to meet exact design specifications and project timelines.
Precision Machining & Fabrication:
  • Expertly operate a range of hand tools, power tools, and advanced workshop machinery including panel saws, thicknessers, routers, and CNC equipment to cut, shape, and prepare components.
  • Fabricate bespoke cabinets, shelving units, countertops, and architectural millwork with exceptional attention to detail, adhering to tolerances within 1mm variance.
Expert Joinery & Component Assembly:
  • Execute and implement advanced joinery techniques such as dovetail, mortise-and-tenon, and domino joinery to ensure both structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.
  • Assemble components using specialized adhesives, fasteners, and clamping systems, guaranteeing seamless alignment, perfect squareness, and flawless integration of all parts.
Finishing, Detailing & Hardware Application:
  • Skilfully apply veneers, laminates, and edge-banding to achieve invisible seams and pristine surfaces.
  • Perform multi-stage sanding, staining, sealing, and finishing processes to produce a superior final coat as per client specifications, including matte, satin, or gloss finishes.
  • Precisely install and calibrate high-end hardware such as soft-close hinges, drawer runners, and custom handles to ensure flawless operation and functionality.
Quality Assurance & Workshop Excellence:
  • Conduct rigorous quality inspections of both raw materials and finished products, ensuring strict compliance with design intent, safety standards, and the company’s renowned quality benchmarks.
  • Proactively identify and troubleshoot construction or fit issues, implementing effective corrective measures with a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and highly organized workshop environment in line with 5S principles and all Work Health & Safety (WHS) regulations, including strict adherence to PPE protocols.
Skills & Experience Required: Essential Qualifications & Experience:
  • A formal qualification such as a Certificate III in Cabinet Making or Carpentry is essential.
  • A minimum of 2 years of proven post-apprenticeship experience within a high-end commercial joinery, cabinetmaking, or furniture manufacturing workshop.
  • Demonstrable portfolio showcasing experience with solid timber, veneers, and engineered board products.
Technical Proficiencies:
  • High competency in traditional and modern joinery methods, precision machining, and hand-finishing techniques.
  • Proven experience safely operating and performing basic maintenance on workshop machinery, including CNC routers and panel saws.
Personal Attributes:
  • An unwavering eye for detail and a deep-seated pride in producing work of exceptional craftsmanship.
  • A self-managed, proactive work ethic with strong problem-solving abilities and the initiative to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit to work effectively with designers, project managers, and fellow tradespeople.
  • The physical capability to perform manual tasks, including lifting materials up to 25kg, and standing for extended periods in a workshop setting.
