Openstack Engineer - Green Light

  • This project team works on Government projects, as such you will ideally have NV1 Security Clerance 
  • Green Light is seeking a Senior OpenStack Engineer (Hands-On SME) to join a OpenShift (OCP) migration program, delivering alongside consultants and working in deep technical partnership with highly experienced customers.

    This role requires credible, low-level expertise in Red Hat OpenStack Platform (RHOSP), including v18 and upgrade experience, with the ability to engage in detailed technical discussions, troubleshoot complex issues, and contribute hands-on to the environment. This is not a passive advisory role — the expectation is to actively contribute, challenge, and collaborate at an expert level.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Hands-On OpenStack Engineering (RHOSP Focus) - Work directly on RHOSP environments (v16–v18, with emphasis on v18) - Contribute to: Configuration, deployment, and tuning of core services (Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Keystone)
    • Troubleshooting at service, API, and log level Perform and support OpenStack upgrades (minor and major) including: Upgrade planning and risk identification Execution support (e.g. data plane / control plane considerations)
    • Post-upgrade validation and performance tuning OpenStack Readiness for OpenShift Ensure OpenStack platform is fit-for-purpose for OCP workloads
    • Work hands-on with: Compute sizing and overcommit strategies Networking alignment (Neutron ? OVN-Kubernetes) Storage backends (Cinder, Ceph integration for container persistence) Support real-world OCP cluster deployments on OpenStack (IPI/UPI)
    • Deep Technical Troubleshooting Investigate and resolve complex cross-layer issues, such as: - Packet flow inconsistencies between Neutron and OCP SDN - API latency / scheduler issues in Nova.
    • Storage latency impacting container workloads Operate comfortably using: - CLI tools - Logs (systemd, container logs, OpenStack services) -
    • Debug-level analysis Expected to hold their own in highly technical debates with senior customer SMEs.
    • Upgrade & Lifecycle Management (Critical Requirement) Lead or contribute to RHOSP upgrade activities, with proven experience in: - Version lifecycle considerations (esp. v17 v18 transitions) - Control plane upgrades and rolling strategies - Dependency management (Ceph, networking components, etc.)
    • Identify risks such as: - API deprecations - Networking model changes - Operator/automation impacts
    • Collaboration with Expert Customer SMEs - Work peer-to-peer with deeply technical customer engineers
    • Engage in: - Whiteboarding detailed architecture decisions - Reviewing configs, templates, and deployment pipelines.
