Our cafe is more than just a place to grab a bite—it’s a celebration of community. Here, distinctions between family and patrons, regulars and newcomers, fade away, fostering a sense of belonging for all. Nestled on the corner of Glen Iris Road and Camberwell Road, our cafe stands as a symbol of the Melbourne hospitality scene. We are looking for a back of house superstar to join our team as a Chef. This is a challenging role where you will be required to be hands-on, calm under pressure and always leading from the front. The Old Garage is cherished by our locals and your responsibility will be to ensure all our valued patrons have a fantastic experience every time. The ideal candidate will be expected to perform the following duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Ensures that products are always high-quality food products with a good estimation of food and labour costs and ordering related supplies.
  • Demonstrates superior recipe knowledge on all items on the menu.
  • Ensures food standards, preparation, presentation, and cooking techniques are established and monitored.
  • Always minimises wastage while ensuring food revenues are maximized.
  • Cleans and sanitises all cooking equipment for next use.
  • Maintains self-appearance in accordance with the property’s grooming standard.
  • Maintain a harmonious working environment with other team members and colleagues.
  • Completes daily, weekly, and monthly reporting tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Researches and recommends changes to improve the overall efficiency of the kitchen.
  • Assesses the quality of products and the services being delivered by the kitchen.
  • Reports maintenance issues as they arise and ensure equipment is safe to operate.
  • Coordinates daily food requirements considering delivery times, shelf life and storage capabilities.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of The Old Garage food and beverage products, as well as an understanding of non-food and beverage products.
  • Completes kitchen opening and closing procedures.
  • Manage and lead the kitchen and the team.
  • Complies with all the established property operational policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic working environment while displaying full knowledge of working OH&S guidelines.
  • Is aware of and follows injury reporting procedures in accordance with the relevant legislation.
  • Aware and adhere to all procedures, including security, fire and the Workplace Health and Safety Act.
  • Represents The Old Garage in a positive manner expounding the values, ethics, and pride always.
Qualifications: • Certificate III, IV in Commercial Cookery with a Diploma in Hospitality Management (or equivalent).
