Mental Health Nurse

About the Role
As a Mental Health Nurse, you will work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team supporting adults with existing or emerging mental health needs who may not currently be engaged with specialist services.
Your role will combine clinical expertise with compassionate, person-centred care, helping individuals navigate complex health and social circumstances while promoting recovery, stability and independence.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake comprehensive mental health assessments and develop individualised care plans.
• Deliver ongoing assessment, intervention, monitoring and evaluation of mental health needs.
• Build trusted therapeutic relationships with clients and their whānau.
• Provide specialist mental health advice and support to colleagues within the wider service.
• Identify and manage clinical risk, escalating concerns where appropriate.
• Coordinate referrals and work collaboratively with community mental health teams, primary care and other support agencies.
• Contribute to effective discharge planning and continuity of care.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and service development.

About You

• Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
• At least two years' experience in mental health nursing.
• Strong assessment, risk management and clinical decision-making skills.
• Experience working with people experiencing complex mental health presentations.
• Well-established relationships across community mental health services would be highly regarded.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• A genuine commitment to culturally safe practice and improving outcomes for Māori and diverse communities.
• An understanding of the impacts of trauma, addiction, homelessness and social inequity on mental wellbeing.
