Senior Policy and Project Officer

An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Policy and Projects Officer to join the Teaching and Learning Resources Branch within the Department of Education on a full-time, ongoing basis. The successful applicant will support the lesson plan design, policy advice, delivery of professional learning and assist with communication activities of the Arts, Humanities and Health and Physical Education Unit.

About the Department

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services. The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Division

The Curriculum and Teaching Practice Division (CTPD) is responsible for developing and supporting schools to implement the department's teaching and learning policies and providing curriculum implementation guidance to Victorian government schools. 

CTPD draws on contemporary research and practice evidence to develop evidence-based teaching and learning policy reforms, co-design and implement initiatives to support schools to deliver high-quality teaching programs. CTPD has primary responsibility for providing advice and implementation support to government schools to deliver the Victorian Curriculum. 

CTPD currently has four branches: 

1. Teaching and LearningResources
2. Curriculum and Professional Practice
3. Literacy and Languages
4. Mathematics, Science and Digital Learning

Across these branches, the key functions include: 

• developing and communicating policies and guidance in areas such as curriculum planning, pedagogy, assessment and reporting, curriculum implementation (including languages education, Holocaust education, literacy instruction, mathematics and numeracy education), and artificial intelligence 
• developing lesson plans and other classroom teaching and learning resources to support the implementation of departmental pedagogical settings and F-10 curriculum 
• designing and delivering high-quality professional learning to build teachers' professional expertise in key pedagogical and curriculum areas 
• developing and managing the Arc Platform and implementing high-quality teaching and learning software 
• fostering student, family and community engagement through programs like the Premiers' Reading Challenge, Books in Prep Bags, and community language school

The successful applicant will support the lesson plan design, policy advice, delivery of professional learning and assist with communication activities of the Arts, Humanities and Health and Physical Education Unit.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Policy and Projects Officer, Arts, Humanities, Health and Physical Education (AHHPE) unit will:

• Lead the curation, quality assurance and publication of lesson plans and supporting documentation to the ARC learning platform across the portfolio, including Holocaust education, climate change and music.
• Support the writing of policy advice, correspondence, communication to schools, and Ministerial briefings across the 11 curriculum areas within the unit's remit.

• Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders across the department, education sectors, schools, tertiary institutions, vendors, and policy experts.

• Lead the remapping, review and strategic alignment of approximately 850 ARC learning resources to ensure resources are current, appropriately aligned to Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 and the Victorian F-10 Curriculum 2.0, and readily accessible to schools.
• Assist with delivery of professional learning and procurement activities of the unit.
