IBG is working with a well-established infrastructure services joint venture to appoint a Civil Maintenance Manager into its Sydney-based delivery team. The business holds a long-term performance contract covering maintenance and improvement of road infrastructure across a major metropolitan network.

Reporting to the Construction Manager Maintenance with 4–10 direct reports, this is a senior operational leadership role responsible for the day-to-day management of civil maintenance and construction across a broad asset portfolio. The successful candidate will be an experienced civil professional with a strong background in road maintenance and construction within a state government environment.

About the role

The Civil Maintenance Manager oversees the daily on-site delivery of civil maintenance and construction works across the network. This includes managing multiple team leads, subcontractors, and supply chain, developing and executing short and medium-term operational programmes, and reporting progress and performance to the client.

The role carries subject matter expert responsibility for estimating, contributing to works pricing and special projects, and driving continuous improvement across construction processes and field delivery methodologies. People leadership is a core part of the position - managing, developing, and performance-managing a team of direct reports.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the daily on-site work of multiple team leads, subcontractors, and supply chain across the civil portfolio
  • Develop and implement short-term operational programmes; monitor and report on progress against medium-term programmes
  • Contribute to the development and review of asset management plans and network improvement strategies
  • Provide input to weekly and monthly programme-level progress and performance reports to the client
  • Assist in the preparation of full and complete works estimates; provide subject matter expert support to the estimating team on additional and special works
  • Drive construction performance through efficiencies in methodology and process
  • Supervise and inspect daily field works to ensure delivery to documented procedures and quality standards
  • Manage quality assurance and operational documentation to support informed decision making
  • Review, create, and implement strategies that increase efficiencies of field works and project delivery
  • Ensure all maintenance and construction staff and subcontractors meet obligations in dealings with the public
  • Lead safety culture and ensure all safety processes and procedures are adhered to at all times
  • Manage, develop, and performance-manage direct reports; maintain and update training requirements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of business systems, policies, and procedures


Skills and experience

  • 10+ years in a management role within civil infrastructure, road maintenance, or construction
  • Strong understanding of maintenance and construction delivery within a state government transport environment
  • Recognised trade or engineering qualification preferred; significant demonstrated experience considered in lieu
  • Proven ability to manage field-based teams, subcontractors, and supply chain across concurrent programmes
  • Sound commercial acumen with exposure to estimating and works pricing
  • Committed to safety leadership and compliance with all site safety standards
  • Strong stakeholder management and client reporting capability
