About the Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to drive brand positioning and deliver engaging and effective communications strategy in a treasured cultural institution. The role is responsible for the development and delivery of State Library Victoria's marketing and communications plan, ensuring that internal and external communications position the Library appropriately and as a ‘must do' destination. In addition to strengthening culture and connection through storytelling and celebration, the role harnesses data to inform decision-making and refines existing approaches to maximise impact.

The Head of Marketing and Communications leads the Brand and Audience Development branch, allocating resources, monitoring performance and managing risk. This leadership role requires an organisation-wide approach aligned with strategy, contributing to a positive culture through collaborative problem-solving, and advocating internally and externally for State Library Victoria.

About You

We value your marketing nous, communications expertise and service design approach to collaboration. You are a highly proficient professional, with significant leadership experience, who inspires their people with their passion and commits to developing team capability. Your ability to generate ideas, assimilate feedback into meaningful actions, and build effective stakeholder relationships have been central to your career successes.

In addition, you will come to us with:

  • Recognised tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (marketing, communications, public relations, corporate affairs).
  • Significant experience in marketing, including developing strategy and thought leadership.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, with the capability to work collaboratively and productively with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to author compelling communications and influence stakeholders using an evidence-based rationale.
  • A track record of leading successful campaigns that advance organisational goals (whether within the arts, tourism or cultural sector or the broader corporate or not-for-profit sectors).
