POSITION TITLE: SUPPLY CHAIN PRE-SALES LEAD
BUSINESS UNIT: 3PL Sales REPORTS TO: Head of 3PL Sales and Marketing JOB TYPE Permanent LOCATION: Auckland The company is an entrepreneurial distribution and intelligent supply chain organisation that has experienced significant growth. As the business continues to expand its 3PL and logistics offerings, there is an increasing need to ensure that new customer solutions are designed, priced, and delivered in ways that support sustainable growth and strong commercial outcomes. Role purpose: The Supply Chain Pre-Sales Lead is responsible for leading the design and validation of 3PL and transport solutions for new and expanding customers. This role ensures that all opportunities are commercially sound, operationally viable, system-ready, and safely executable prior to contract execution. Working in close partnership with Sales, Operations, and Commercial teams, the role: · Maximises achievable margin at point of sale · Ensures operational complexity is clearly identified and priced · Reduces downstream onboarding risk, cost, and rework While aligned to sales success, the role retains independent accountability for solution quality, margin integrity, and deliverability, supporting us to grow profitably and sustainably. Key Accountabilities: Pre-Sales Solution Design · Lead the design of end-to-end 3PL solutions across: v Warehousing and fulfilment v Transport and freight services v Returns and value-added services · Translate customer requirements into: v Clear operational workflows v Fully costed service models v System and billing assumptions · Ensure all scope, assumptions, constraints, and exclusions are clearly defined prior to contract execution Commercial Discipline and Margin Integrity · Partner with Sales and Commercial Finance to ensure: · All operational complexity is identified and priced · Margin targets are achievable under realistic conditions · Stress test solutions against volume, variability, and service expectations · Challenge opportunities that present unacceptable commercial, operational, or safety risk Sales Enablement and Deal Support · Act as the lead subject matter expert for solution design within the sales process · Support customer engagements, proposals, and tenders · Enable Sales to clearly articulate solution design, pricing rationale, and constraints · Improve overall quality and sustainability of wins Onboarding and Systems Readiness · Ensure all deals handed to onboarding are: v Fully scoped and documented v Operationally and commercially validated v System and billing ready at go-live wherever practicable · Work closely with Operations, Systems, and Onboarding teams to support seamless delivery Continuous Improvement and Cost Avoidance · Reduce hidden costs associated with: v Onboarding overruns v Manual billing and revenue leakage v Unplanned operational complexity · Identify recurring issues and feed learnings into pricing, solution design, and sales processes · Contribute to the development of a scalable and repeatable pre-sales capability Data, AI and Digital Tools · Leverage data and AI-enabled tools to: v Analyse customer requirements and operational complexity v Model solution scenarios and cost drivers v Improve accuracy, speed, and consistency of solution design · Ensure outputs are commercially sound, operationally realistic, and aligned to governance requirements Health and Safety · Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all employees by identifying, eliminating, controlling and/or managing risks and hazards, by maintaining safety procedures and by ensuring investigation of any safety issues that arise. · Understand and observe all safety procedures and practices, ensuring employees follow the same, in order to prevent injuries or damage. · Report all observed or known hazards as soon as is reasonably practicable, ensuring employees follow the same reporting, for the purposes of eliminating, isolating or minimising risks. Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience · 8 years’ experience in logistics, 3PL, supply chain, or transport · Demonstrated experience in solution design, pre-sales, or commercial operations · Strong understanding of: v Warehouse and fulfilment operations v Transport pricing and delivery models v WMS, TMS, and billing systems · Strong commercial acumen with proven costing and margin analysis capability · Highly analytical, structured, and detail-oriented · Strong stakeholder management and influencing capability · Ability to work cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, and Finance · Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex solutions Personal Profile · Commercially astute and pragmatic. Able to balance customer needs with operational realities and margin outcomes · Confident and credible influencer. Comfortable challenging assumptions and constructively pushing back to protect solution quality and business outcomes · Highly analytical and detail-oriented.
