Software Developer - Front End

Full-time

Best Practice Software Pty Ltd

At Best Practice Software, our vision is communities connected with care. We’re achieving this through our mission to build a culture people love , where:

  • we value customers,
  • we work together for success,
  • we are accountable for our actions,
  • we innovate for the future, and
  • we celebrate diversity and inclusion.

If you share our vision and values, please consider this exciting career opportunity to join our growing team in Brisbane or Bundaberg, Queensland.

You’re unique, and we value that.

Communities connected with care

That’s our vision. We make the clinical and practice management software that over 7000 Australian Practices run on, used every working day by GPs, Practice Managers, Nurses, Allied Health Providers and Administrative Staff.

We’re looking for a Front End Developer to build the products that sit alongside it, including online bookings and mobile.

About the role

This is a React and TypeScript role on the team behind our value-added products: online bookings, mobile, and the other things patients and Practices use around the edges of our main clinical system.

Unlike the clinical system, these products are used by patients. Any age, any device, any level of confidence with technology. If a booking flow confuses someone, they ring the Practice instead, which is the thing the product is there to prevent.

You’ll work with UX Designers, Product Owners, QA and our Clinical Safety Advisors, reporting to a Product Lead.

As a Software Developer - Front End, we’ll call on your unique talents, skills, expertise, and experience to:

Build the interface

  • Build and maintain React components in TypeScript, with the Node.js tooling around them
  • Work from UX designs, and push back when something won’t hold up for someone using it for the first time
  • Handle live updates in the client through SignalR, and consume the back-end APIs behind them

Ship it

  • Package the front end as Docker images and static file packages
  • Release through Azure Pipelines
  • Watch how the front end behaves in production with Azure Monitor, and act on what it tells you

Prove it works

  • Write automated unit tests, and keep them green in CI/CD
  • Support automated system testing across the features you build
  • Build to our accessibility and UX standards, and keep performance usable on mid-range phones and slow connections

Work as part of the team

  • Partner with Product Owners, UX Designers and Clinical Safety Advisors to turn requirements into something buildable
  • Review your teammates’ code, and get feedback on your own
  • Break work down into pieces that can ship, and flag problems early

We believe our ideal applicant will demonstrate the following attributes:

Essential

  • Commercial front-end development experience, typically three years or more
  • Strong React with TypeScript. You’re comfortable with hooks, component composition, and state management
  • Solid HTML and CSS, and an understanding of what the browser is doing underneath
  • Node.js tooling: builds, packaging, and dependency management
  • Experience in consuming REST APIs, and handling loading, error and empty states properly
  • Automated unit testing and CI/CD as everyday habits
  • Australian work rights

Highly desirable

  • Accessibility standards, and how to test against them, rather than just claim them
  • Consumer or public-facing products, where you couldn’t train the user or pick their device
  • Experience building to an established design system you didn’t get to change
  • SignalR or other real-time client messaging
  • Enough C# and .NET to follow a change through to the back end when you need to
  • Medical software, e-health or another regulated field. FHIR and Australian primary healthcare experience are a big plus

What’s in it for you?

  • Market-leading benefits that make us a proven local employer of choice.
  • Flexible work arrangements that help you strike the right career balance.
  • Exciting start to, or positive development of, your Health IT career, with brilliant internal growth opportunities.
  • Belong as part of a dynamic and highly supportive team with a strong dedication to the mission.
  • Enrich your experience by supporting our frontline healthcare heroes across Australasia.

Our team members enjoy exclusive access to our brilliant B-Perks Program , offering great rewards like birthday leave, an annual health and wellbeing bonus, and sponsored rewards to recognise outstanding contributions. You’ll also access our leadership development program and learning opportunities across our group of businesses and enjoy the freedom and flexibility to work as you work best. We offer purpose and impact, an inclusive culture, a connected workforce, transparent leadership, and growth and belonging.

How can we get this ball rolling?

To start a conversation on your fit within our team, we recommend you provide us with:

  • a capability statement/cover letter highlighting your experience and how you meet our requirements; and
  • an updated copy of your resume.

Your new career starts here.
