Senior Microsoft Data Engineering Lead

Full-time

Frazer Tremble

Senior Microsoft Data Engineering Lead

Public Sector | Melbourne | 2.5-year fixed term

Build the platform. Set the standard.

A large, well-funded transformation program is moving its core systems onto a modern Microsoft data stack. The platform is being designed with a systems integration partner, and now they need the person who will own it technically, from the first pipeline to the architecture patterns every solution will follow.

This is a hands-on engineering and data governance role, leading from the front. You'll build, you'll set the standards, and you'll work closely with the SI partner to completion.

What you'll own

  • Legacy to target: Design and build the tooling and pipelines that move data from existing systems into the new environment
  • Dataverse governance: Define how Dataverse is configured and validate SI partner designs against those standards
  • Fabric governance: Set the guardrails for Fabric, validate partner designs, and carry the design and build forward beyond the SI engagement
  • Solution patterns: Establish the architecture and design principles that apply across every solution on the program
  • Partner relationship: Be the technical counterpart to the SI partner's resources, collaborative but clear on quality

What you'll bring

  • Hands-on Microsoft Fabric implementation experience
  • Dataverse design and setup
  • Strong data engineering fundamentals, including Azure Data Factory and the wider Azure data stack
  • Semantic and lineage modelling
  • Experience reviewing and challenging third-party designs while keeping a working relationship intact
  • A background as a Senior Microsoft Data Engineer or Fabric Platform Lead, or something equivalent

Highly regarded

  • DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate)
  • DP-700 (Fabric Data Engineer Associate)

Why this role

  • Real ownership: you set the patterns rather than inheriting them
  • Work with Fabric and Dataverse at enterprise scale on a visible, executive-sponsored program
  • A fixed-term role with a defined scope and a clear finish line
  • A collaborative team and hybrid working (minimum 3 days onsite)

Next steps

If you're a hands-on Fabric or MS data engineering leader who thrives on building something new, we'd love to hear from you.
