Transit Systems is seeking an experienced and motivated Leading Hand to join our maintenance team at Smithfield in Outer Western Sydney . What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Leading Hand at our Smithfield Depot, your role is critical in ensuring our fleet is safe, reliable, and road-ready. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising heavy vehicle repairs, servicing, and diagnostics across our large fleet of buses.

  • Assigning and overseeing daily tasks for workshop staff to maintain high standards and efficiency.

  • Performing inspections and ensuring compliance with safety, maintenance, and operational guidelines.

  • Leading by example and promoting continuous improvement in a busy, hands-on environment.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Conducting routine servicing of the bus fleet.

  • Completing unscheduled repairs and maintenance efficiently.

  • Attending on-road breakdowns and ensuring timely recovery.

  • Completing annual pre-inspections of vehicles for Transperth inspection.

  • Servicing workshop equipment as required to maintain operational readiness.

  • Ensuring adherence to safety standards and company policies across the workshop.

  • Ordering stock and maintaining inventory levels cost-effectively, as directed by the Workshop Manager or Supervisor.

  • Assisting with the control and coordination of daily workflow to meet operational demands.

  • Performing bus driving duties when required.

  • Carrying out any other duties as assigned in support of the team and workshop operations.

What We’re Looking For:
  • Trade qualified – Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Technician, or equivalent.

  • Minimum 5 years' experience working in the heavy vehicle trade, ideally within commercial fleets, trucks, or buses.

  • Tech-savvy – Comfortable using modern diagnostic tools, fleet management systems, and workshop technology.

  • Strong leadership skills – Proven ability to manage, motivate, and support a diverse team of tradespeople.

  • Excellent knowledge of workshop operations, safety standards, and compliance requirements.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with a hands-on approach to problem solving and team support.
