Product Development Engineer

The Role The Infrastructure SME plays a critical role in managing and maintaining Access4’s backend environments. The primary goal of this role is to ensure 99.999% system uptime while driving continuous improvement across all system functions and components.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily maintenance and upkeep of backend systems.
• Drive constant improvements and innovations to strengthen system resilience.
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to the engineering team and wider Access4 organisation, providing expert advice and solutions.
• Contribute to the engineering and R&D functions to support the company’s strategic goals.
• Serve as the on-call contact for after-hours events and system emergencies.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field.
• Full working rights in Australia (no sponsorship available).
• 5+ years’ experience in Linux administration, including kernel and module-level expertise.
• 5+ years’ experience managing on-premises environments.
• 3+ years’ experience with Docker or other containerisation technologies.
• 3+ years’ experience with Ansible or similar automation tools.
• 3+ years’ experience developing in Python (additional programming languages highly regarded).
• 3+ years’ experience with virtualisation technologies.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP network stacks and monitoring systems.
• Experience with database administration (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar) preferred.
• Knowledge of VoIP technologies (SIP) desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Organised, methodical, and disciplined approach to operations and project delivery.
• Proficiency in the tools and technologies listed above.
