Part-time Payroll & Accounts Officer opportunity with a growing civil and electrical contractor

Hays is proud to be partnering with a well-established civil construction company based on the southern Sunshine Coast. Delivering services across the development and transport infrastructure sectors, our client is seeking an experienced Payroll & Accounts Administration Officer to join their close-knit team at their Head Office in Bells Creek.

Your new role

This is a permanent part-time position working 4 days per week (Monday to Thursday). Reporting to the Accountant, you will be responsible for the end-to-end payroll function including:

  • Coordinating weekly payroll processing, ensuring accurate payment of wages, superannuation and associated deductions
  • Process employee changes, including new starters, terminations, transfers and salary adjustments
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant Awards and EBAs, with support from the Accountant as needed
  • Managing payroll reporting and statutory compliance requirements

In addition to this, you will support the Accountant with accounts payable functions, including:

  • Processing payments accurately and within required deadlines
  • Reviewing and resolving accounts payable exceptions and discrepancies
  • Performing quality checks on transactions prior to payment processing
  • Reconciling business expenses, including fuel cards, corporate credit cards and other operational costs.

The role also includes general administration duties such as:

  • Answering and directing incoming phone calls
  • Receiving and sorting incoming mail
  • Providing general administrative support to the wider team.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in payroll processing
  • Experience using payroll and accounting software
  • Strong understanding of Fair Work legislation, Modern Awards and payroll compliance requirements
  • Friendly and approachable manner, with strong customer service skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised as well as within the team
