About the Position:
This full-time Cook role is vital to the smooth and successful operation of the restaurant, with responsibility for preparing and cooking a variety of menu items to the highest standards of quality, taste, presentation, and food safety. The Cook will work as part of a close-knit kitchen team, contributing to efficient service delivery and helping maintain the business’s reputation for excellence in every dish served.
Key Responsibilities:
- Examine ingredients to ensure their quality and suitability before preparation.
- Regulate the temperature of ovens, grills, fryers and other cooking equipment.
- Prepare and cook meat, poultry, seafood, vegetables, rice, pasta, sauces and other menu items.
- Season food during preparation and cooking to achieve the required taste and presentation.
- Portion food, arrange dishes and add sauces, garnishes and other finishing elements.
- Prepare food to meet customers’ dietary requirements, allergies and special requests.
- Follow established recipes, portion-control standards and presentation guidelines.
- Monitor food supplies and advise management when ingredients or kitchen items need to be ordered.
- Receive and inspect food deliveries and ensure products are properly stored and rotated.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and minimise food spoilage and wastage.
- Assist with planning menus and developing new dishes when required.
- Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, cutting, marinating and measuring.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene across cooking stations, equipment and food-storage areas.
- Follow food-safety procedures, including temperature control, date labelling and prevention of cross-contamination.
- Train and provide guidance to kitchen assistants and junior kitchen employees where required.
- Work closely with chefs, kitchen staff and front-of-house employees to ensure orders are prepared accurately and on time.
- Comply with workplace health and safety requirements and report hazards, equipment faults or incidents.
- Perform other reasonable kitchen-related duties as directed by the Head Chef or Restaurant Manager.
Requirements:
- Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
- Strong technical skills in food preparation, cooking techniques, and maintaining kitchen hygiene and food safety standards.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
- Good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house staff.
