Essential Skills for a Café All-Rounder

  • Customer Service: Friendly, approachable, and able to engage positively with customers.

  • Food and Beverage Preparation: Ability to prepare and serve food and drinks, including specialty coffee.

  • Cash Handling and POS Operation: Competent in using point-of-sale systems and handling cash transactions accurately.

  • Multitasking and Time Management: Efficiently manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness of service areas, equipment, and dining spaces to food safety standards.

  • Communication: Clear communication with customers and team members.

  • Flexibility and Teamwork: Adaptable to various roles and able to work collaboratively.

  • Basic Food Safety Knowledge: Understanding of hygiene and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Mandatory Certifications: Candidates should hold essential certificates such as Food Handling and, if applicable, RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) . Additional certificates may be required depending on the client’s needs.

    • Uniform: Some clients may require staff to wear a uniform, while others may not. Candidates should be prepared to comply with the specific uniform policy of the client they are assigned to.
    • Availability: Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays as required by the client.
    • Experience: Previous café or hospitality experience is preferred but not always mandatory.
    • Compliance: Candidates must be willing to adhere to workplace health and safety standards and client-specific policies.
    • Background Checks: Some clients may require police checks or other clearances before placement.
