A small Federal Government agency is seeking an experienced API Developer to join its Technology Services Division as the agency brings critical system integration capability in-house. You will play a key role in designing, building and supporting secure, scalable APIs that enable the exchange of health information across Australia's digital healthcare ecosystem.


Your new role


Working within a complex integration environment, you will develop modern RESTful APIs, contribute to cloud-native delivery practices, and help improve interoperability between clinical and administrative systems.

What you'll be doing

  • Designing and developing secure Java-based REST APIs

  • Delivering APIs aligned to HL7 FHIR healthcare standards

  • Building solutions with a focus on privacy, security and auditability

  • Implementing OAuth authentication and authorisation controls

  • Supporting CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

  • Working across containerised environments including Docker and Kubernetes

  • Collaborating with technical teams, vendors and integration partners

  • Contributing to API testing, automation and performance improvement initiatives

What you'll need to succeed


We're looking for developers with strong API engineering experience and a background in modern software delivery environments.

You will have experience with:

  • HL7 FHIR experience

  • Healthcare application delivery

  • Java development

  • REST API design and development

  • API testing and performance testing

  • OAuth security frameworks

  • CI/CD pipelines

  • Containerisation concepts

  • DevOps or GitOps practices

  • End-to-end testing approaches

    Highly regarded:

  • Spring Boot or Quarkus

  • Kubernetes

  • Test automation frameworks

  • Data integration and mapping experience
