An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join a well-established, community-focused organisation that supports people across Tasmania. Operating within a large and complex environment, this organisation is committed to delivering high-quality services while maintaining a strong focus on integrity, collaboration and continuous improvement. The role sits within a supportive Finance team and offers the chance to make an immediate impact during a busy period.

Your New Role

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will take a lead role in delivering accurate and compliant payroll services across a large workforce. You will manage end-to-end payroll processing while acting as a key technical resource for payroll-related matters, supporting stakeholders and identifying opportunities to improve systems and processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing end-to-end fortnightly payroll processing and monthly payroll processing.
  • Processing appointments, transfers, promotions, employment changes and terminations.
  • Completing complex payroll calculations, including back pays and redundancies.
  • Preparing month-end and year-end payroll reporting and reconciliations.
  • Supporting payroll audits and legislative compliance requirements.
  • Administering payroll systems and producing payroll reports.
  • Providing expert payroll advice to leaders and stakeholders.
  • Coaching and mentoring team members to support capability development.
  • Working collaboratively with Finance, People & Culture and operational teams to improve payroll processes and service delivery.

What You'll Need to Succeed

You will be a highly capable payroll professional with strong technical knowledge and a proven ability to manage complex payroll operations. You will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and bringing a customer-focused approach to stakeholder engagement.

To be successful, you will demonstrate:

  • Previous experience in a senior end-to-end payroll position.
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, taxation requirements and compliance.
  • Advanced payroll systems knowledge and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with payroll reporting, reconciliations and audit activities.
  • Strong financial acumen and attention to detail.
  • Leadership, mentoring or team support experience.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines in a complex environment.
  • Experience with Chris21 or similar payroll platforms will be highly regarded.
