At Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ), our mission extends beyond the beach. Our Emergency Communications Centre plays a critical role in coordinating emergency and operational responses across Queensland, connecting people in need with the right resources at the right time.

We’re looking for a Surfcom Operators to join our Operations Centre team — someone who can stay calm under pressure, make sound decisions, communicate with confidence and empathy, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment. What You’ll Do: 

  • Receive and triage urgent and non-urgent requests for assistance.
  • Assess situations and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Accurately record incident information in our incident management systems.
  • Dispatch and coordinate multiple resources and responses simultaneously.
  • Liaise with SLSQ teams, emergency services and other service providers.
  • Communicate confidently and compassionately with members of the public and operational stakeholders.
  • Monitor multiple systems and maintain strong situational awareness.
  • Support major incidents, disasters, search and rescue operations and major sporting events.
  • Stay fit for duty—physically, emotionally, and mentally.

About You: 

Essential

  • A current Working with Children Blue Card (or the ability to obtain).
  • A National Police Record Check (or the ability to obtain).
  • Proof of identity, including required points of identification and evidence of working rights.
  • Flexibility to work a rotating roster system, including weekend work.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute with 90%+ accuracy.
  • A moderate understanding of child safety and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and web-based data systems.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong judgement, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to being part of a disciplined operational team.

Desirable

  • Certificate II in Public Safety and Beach Patrol experience; or
  • Relevant emergency services experience in an operational role; or
  • Relevant Emergency Operations Centre experience.
