Invetech is seeking an Industrial Control Systems Engineer to join our Cell Therapy team in Melbourne. In this hands-on role, you will work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to design, develop, test and commission control system software for custom automation projects, typically in regulated cell therapy and GMP manufacturing environments.
You will contribute throughout project execution, from requirements analysis and solution development to verification, commissioning and client-site support, while helping deliver safe, reliable and high-quality equipment.
What you’ll do
- Develop and configure control system software for custom automation equipment, including PLC, HMI, SCADA, edge, DCS and robotic systems.
- Analyse engineering requirements and support solutions that meet regulatory, quality, safety, process and efficiency objectives.
- Create software design and verification documentation and contribute to equipment manuals, training materials and related project documentation.
- Program, test, debug and integrate control system modules, test beds and final equipment.
- Participate in technical reviews and contribute to project planning and successful delivery.
- Install and commission equipment at Invetech and supplier sites in Melbourne.
- Provide remote and on-site support for equipment verification activities, including at international client sites.
- Follow good engineering practices and Invetech quality system processes, and support continuous improvement activities.
What you’ll bring
- A degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent qualification.
- At least two years’ experience in industrial control systems project engineering.
- Demonstrated experience implementing industrial control system designs using Emerson DeltaV DCS with Live and Batch.
- Knowledge of industrial sensors, actuators, motion systems and robotic control equipment.
- Knowledge of GMP manufacturing environments, particularly biopharmaceutical or therapeutic product environments.
- An understanding of machine-level response times, functionality, motion and position control.
- The ability to produce clear technical documentation covering operating modes, processes, sequences, code and test results.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proactive and self-motivated approach.
Highly regarded experience
- Siemens TIA Portal PLC/HMI, Beckhoff PLC, Rockwell HMI/PLC or Emerson DeltaV DCS.
- Industrial robot control and industrial edge computing.
- GMP manufacturing, particularly biopharmaceutical or therapeutic product environments.
- FDA 21 CFR Part 11 and/or ISA-88 batch control standards.
- Strong practical problem-solving capability.
About the role
This Melbourne-based position reports to the Manager, Industrial Control Systems Engineering. Travel is expected to be approximately 10% of the time. As our employees and teams work across different time zones, occasional contact outside your usual time zone may be required.
