General Accountant - North Geelong location

An established and growing construction business based in North Geelong is seeking a capable General Accountant to join its finance team. Reporting directly to the CFO, you'll play a key role in supporting the financial operations of a successful organisation with a strong reputation in the market. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant who enjoys working across a broad finance function and partnering with stakeholders across the business.

Your new role


As the General Accountant, you will be responsible for supporting the CFO across a wide range of financial and management accounting activities while helping drive accurate and efficient finance operations.
Key responsibilities include:

• Managing general ledger maintenance and month-end accounting activities
• Performing bank, credit card and balance sheet reconciliations
• Assisting with the preparation of financial and commercial reports
• Providing analysis on financial performance, cash flow, debtors and project costing
• Managing fixed asset registers and related schedules
• Supporting BAS, Payroll Tax, WorkCover, Incolink and CBus reporting requirements
• Assisting with external audits and compliance obligations
• Overseeing payroll processing and ensuring timely and accurate employee payments
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across finance systems and processes
• Supporting and mentoring junior administration and finance team members where required

What you'll need to succeed

• Previous experience in a General Accountant, Divisional Accountant, Financial Accountant or similar accounting position
• Demonstrated experience across financial accounting, reconciliations and reporting
• Strong understanding of payroll and regulatory reporting requirements
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships
• High attention to detail with strong organisational and time management skills
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills and exposure to accounting systems
• Employment Hero experience will be highly regarded
• Experience within construction, projects or related industries will be advantageous
• Relevant accounting qualifications or studies in progress
