Key Responsibilities as 2D FX Artist
1. Visual Effects Design & Animation
Dynamic Simulations: Design and animate top-tier 2D effects including explosions, fluid smoke, stylized fire, atmospheric weather, and magical auras that align with the specific tone of each show.
Aesthetic Alignment: Work hand-in-hand with the Art Director and Showrunner to ensure that FX aren’t just “add-ons,” but integrated parts of the visual storytelling.
Consistency: Maintain a high level of style consistency across multiple episodes, ensuring that the “language” of the effects remains cohesive.
2. Technical Production & Pipeline
Optimization: Prepare FX assets that are production-ready, focusing on proper layering and technical compatibility with 2D/3D backgrounds and character assets.
Inter-Departmental Synergy: Partner with Storyboarding, Character Animation, and Compositing teams to ensure seamless asset hand-offs and integration.
Pipeline Innovation: Help document your creation methods and assist the technical team in refining the FX pipeline to increase studio-wide efficiency and output quality.
3. Self-Management & Quality Control
Deadline Mastery: Manage your own schedule to meet tight production deliverables while maintaining the high artistic standards Glitch fans expect.
Proactive Problem Solving: Identify potential technical bottlenecks early in the production cycle and propose creative solutions to overcome them.
Required Skills & Qualifications for 2D FX Artist
Professional Experience: 3+ years of dedicated experience as 2D FX Artist in 2D FX Animation for animated series, films, or high-end digital content.
Software Proficiency: Mastery of Toon Boom Harmony and Adobe After Effects . You should be comfortable navigating complex node structures and timeline-based animation.
The “Artistic Eye”: An exceptional sense of timing, weight, and color. You understand how a single frame of “impact” can change the entire feel of an action sequence.
Adaptability: The ability to jump between hyper-stylized “Internet” aesthetics and more traditional cinematic 2D effects as required by different IP.
Production Tools: Familiarity with project tracking software like ShotGrid to maintain organized workflows in a fast-paced environment.
Bonus Skills (The “Glitch” Edge)
Unreal Engine Knowledge: Experience implementing 2D PNG sequences into UE5 environments.
