The Principal Consultant and WA Coastal and Maritime Team Leader is responsible for managing a technical team of Coastal and Maritime engineers and professionals within the Perth office. The Team Leader ensures effective utilization, resource planning, and staff development of the team. This role includes line management duties, workforce planning, and promoting a high-performance, inclusive, and sustainable work environment. The Team Lead will also contribute to work-winning and fee-earning work in their technical area as a Principal level Consultant, while supporting strategic resource planning with Program and Capability Managers. Key Responsibilities In this role you will:
- Lead with a focus on a positive, high-performing and inclusive team culture.
- Align with Program Managers to ensure team focus on work-winning and project delivery.
- Coordinate team meetings and ensure effective communication and information sharing.
- Support collaboration across teams and disciplines, both locally and nationally.
- Monitor and improve team and individual utilisation and billability.
- Forecast resource needs and assist with workforce planning and recruitment.
- Line manage team members, including performance reviews, career development, and wellbeing.
- Support implementation of BMT’s DE&I and Sustainability strategies.
- Liaise with Capability Managers, Program Managers, Project Managers, HR, and Talent Acquisition to ensure resource alignment.
- Undertake fee-earning technical work in line with team capacity and individual expertise.
- Proven leadership skills and experience managing a technical team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills across multidisciplinary and geographically dispersed teams.
- Strong understanding of business operations within a consultancy including work-winning and project delivery.
- Experience in resource planning, forecasting, and improving utilisation.
- Commitment to professional development and mentoring others.
- Alignment with BMT’s values and strategies, including diversity, equity & inclusion, and sustainability.
- Willingness to undertake occasional travel and work flexibly, including remote or hybrid arrangements.
- A professional background in Coastal Modelling, Dredging or Maritime Structures Engineering with a formal qualification (bachelor’s or higher) in the relevant field.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in a consulting environment
- Higher level qualifications or certifications in project management, business or leadership including but not limited to an MBA, AICD, PMBOK, or PMP.
