We are partnering with a leading Defence industry organisation to recruit an Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning Engineer to join their team as they continue to expand their advanced technology capability.

Based in Brisbane or Canberra, this permanent opportunity offers the chance to apply AI and machine learning techniques to complex, real-world challenges within a highly secure engineering environment. Due to the nature of the work, applicants must hold a current NV1 Security Clearance.


Your new role

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute to the development, application and governance of AI and machine learning capabilities within complex operational environments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development of AI and machine learning requirements, frameworks and governance activities
  • Developing and enhancing machine learning models using Python and modern AI/ML frameworks
  • Working with complex imagery, video, sensor and telemetry datasets to support advanced analytics and autonomous capabilities
  • Designing, deploying and supporting AI/ML solutions across cloud and hybrid environments, leveraging platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud
  • Supporting model validation, deployment and performance monitoring throughout the AI/ML lifecycle
  • Contributing to solutions across areas such as computer vision, sensor fusion, edge AI and real-time data processing
  • Collaborating with engineering, software and operational stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams
  • Representing the organisation at technical forums, working groups and industry engagements

What you'll need to succeed

  • Degree qualification in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science or a related discipline
  • Commercial experience developing machine learning solutions using Python
  • Experience with frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, OpenCV or similar
  • Experience working with complex datasets and end-to-end model development lifecycles
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices, including version control, testing and documentation
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience operating within highly regulated, secure or mission-critical environments
  • Current NV1 Security Clearance
