Company Description

The U.S. Embassy in Canberra and the Consulates General in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth represent America in Australia and advance U.S. interests across political, economic, cultural, and educational spheres. The mission works closely with students, professionals, and leaders in arts, sports, science, business, and public life to strengthen the U.S.-Australia alliance. Embassy and consulate teams focus on public engagement, information services, and citizen support, including outreach through digital platforms. Staff members collaborate with local and international partners to promote mutual understanding and provide accurate, timely information to the public.

Role Description

The Digital Media Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Australia, supporting the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in planning, producing, and managing digital communications. This position develops and executes social media and web content strategies, including drafting posts, creating visual and multimedia assets, and updating official online channels. The role monitors digital analytics, tracks engagement trends, and recommends adjustments to improve outreach and audience interaction. The Digital Media Manager collaborates with internal teams on public diplomacy campaigns, prepares content for events and initiatives, and ensures that all materials align with U.S. government policies, branding, and accessibility standards. The position also supports crisis communication and timely information-sharing across digital platforms when required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to create, edit, and manage high-quality digital content for web and social media platforms, with strong writing and visual communication skills.
  • Experience developing and implementing digital communication or social media strategies, including audience engagement and campaign planning.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, social media management tools, and basic graphic design or video editing software.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret digital metrics, monitor trends, and present data-driven recommendations.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities, with capacity to handle multiple deadlines and coordinate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated intercultural communication skills and interest in international relations, public diplomacy, or public affairs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, media studies, journalism, public relations, international relations, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in English with clear, inclusive, and audience-appropriate communication; additional language skills are an asset.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices for inclusive digital content is highly desirable.
