    Lead the Control Systems on Major Industrial Projects

    Talon Recruitment is seeking an experienced Controls Engineering Lead to take ownership of the Electrical, Instrumentation & Control (E&I) scope across a range of heavy industrial and mineral processing projects .
    This role covers the full automation lifecycle - from control philosophy and architecture design through to plant commissioning and operational stabilisation .
    This isn't a purely design role. We are looking for someone who can design the system, build it, and stand behind it during commissioning when the plant goes live.
    If you have delivered Rockwell-based automation systems in heavy industry and enjoy solving real operational problems during commissioning, this role will put you right where decisions are made and systems are proven.

    Types of Projects

    Projects typically involve large-scale industrial processing facilities , including:

    • Mineral processing plants
    • Crushing and materials handling systems
    • Milling and grinding circuits
    • Thickening and filtration systems
    • Pumping and fluid transfer systems
    • Utilities and plant services
    • Reagent and dosing systems
      These environments require highly reliable automation platforms capable of supporting continuous industrial production.

      Core Automation Platform


      The control environments are typically built around:
    • Allen-Bradley ControlLogix / CompactLogix PLCs
    • Rockwell Studio 5000 development
    • FactoryTalk View SE / ME SCADA
    • PowerFlex VSDs
    • Stratix managed switches
    • EtherNet/IP plant architecture
    • Integrated MCC and VSD control systems
    • SIL-rated safety systems where required

      What You'll Be Doing


      Control System Architecture
    • Develop overall Control Philosophy
    • Design plant-wide PLC / SCADA architecture
    • Develop EtherNet/IP network topology
    • Define shutdown and emergency stop strategies
    • Implement cybersecurity and remote access frameworks
      Engineering Ownership
      Accountable for technical delivery and approval of key documentation including:
    • Functional Design Specification (FDS)
    • I/O lists and signal registers
    • Instrument index and loop diagrams
    • Single line diagrams
    • Cause & effect matrices
    • Interlock schedules
    • Control panel layouts
    • Network architecture documentation
    • FAT/SAT procedures
    • Commissioning test sheets
      PLC & SCADA Development
    • Structured Studio 5000 programming using UDTs and AOIs
    • Modular architecture aligned with ISA-88 / ISA-95
    • Alarm management consistent with ISA-18.2
    • FactoryTalk graphics, alarms and trending configuration
    • System documentation and version control
      Advanced Process Control
    • Mill load control and optimisation
    • PID tuning under operating load
    • Pump cascade and protection logic
    • Thickener density stabilisation
    • Filter press cycle sequencing and optimisation
      Commissioning Leadership
    • Lead FAT and SAT testing
    • Oversee instrumentation and panel installation quality
    • Run loop checks and I/O verification
    • Troubleshoot under live plant conditions
    • Support plant ramp-up to steady-state production
      In short: you own the control system until the plant runs properly.

      The Experience We're Looking For

    • 10+ years industrial automation experience
    • 5+ years working in mineral processing or heavy industrial plants
    • Demonstrated delivery using Rockwell / Allen-Bradley platforms
    • Experience delivering automation systems on major industrial projects
    • Proven plant commissioning leadership
      Highly regarded:
    • Brownfield integration projects
    • Containerised MCC systems
    • Large multi-area plant control networks
