Primary objective

Manage, develop and implement communication and media strategies to achieve departmental goals; including stakeholder engagement,

forecasting, proactive and reactive media functions and reporting.

Context statement

Assist the Media and Communications managers to develop and implement the NT Health communication and media strategies, and apply a

proactive approach to media engagement, issues management and the delivery of strategic advice. The position is required to work in a busy

environment, with involvement in socially sensitive issues. This role participates in an on-call roster.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Liaise with local and national media and facilitate strategic, timely, evidence based and appropriate responses to media issues.

2. Identify, plan, create and implement a range of communications projects and activities, including planning and logistics, resource allocation

in respect of media, political and stakeholder considerations consistent with the objectives, strategic directions and priorities of the

department and government.

3. Liaise with NT Health executives, managers and staff, ministerial officers and external stakeholders in developing and distributing media

materials such as media briefs, releases, responses, editorials and digital communication materials.

4. Contribute to the development and implementation of media and stakeholder strategies for NT Health.

5. Capitalise on timely opportunities to enhance NT Health’s relationship with the public and other key stakeholders.

6. Co-ordinate the preparation of media and communications materials including radio and TV scripts, translations and audio visual materials

and manage promotional events, displays and exhibitions.

7. Provide high-level writing and editing expertise in the production of key publications.

8. Establish strong working relationships with stakeholders, including industry and agency experts to build understanding of agency

initiatives, issues and sensitivities; and be responsive to stakeholder needs and requirements.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Proven experience in journalism and/or public relations fields or recent experience in strategic media management on complex media,

communications and marketing issues.

2. Proven experience providing advice on communication policies and guidelines in accordance with relevant legislation, frameworks, and

branding guidelines.

3. Proven experience in communications and marketing project coordination/management and evaluation, including political and stakeholder

implications with effective and timely outcomes.

4. Demonstrated superior writing skills, including proof-reading, editing and writing skills, with the ability to translate technical information

into plain English, for diverse audiences, channels and publication needs.

5. Practical, contemporary knowledge of the broader strategic communication and marketing industry, including publications, media

management, exhibitions, creative graphic design concepts, electronic, social and digital platforms and networks, promotions, advertising

management, market research and events or product launches.

6. Ability to demonstrate the achievement of effective outcomes in a highly sensitive, confidential, complex and cross-cultural environment.

7. Demonstrated experience managing multiple, and sometimes conflicting, workloads, while maintaining attention to detail.
