Robert Half is partnering with Intermoda, a highly successful Brisbane-based data intelligence company servicing clients in the transport sector across Australia and internationally. Following the merger of two leading Australian transport technology businesses in 2023, Intermoda are now in an exciting growth phase, transitioning from a startup-style culture into a more structured, scaled organisation while holding onto the agility and collaborative spirit that got them here. Data doesn't support the product here - it is the product. You'll be joining a tight knit, highly technical team where the quality of your engineering has a direct and visible impact.

The Role

This is a newly created Data Engineer position, expanding an established data engineering team. The key drivers for this hire are supporting a significant increase in customer onboarding and helping formalise and mature data engineering best practices as the business scales.

You'll work closely with experienced Data Engineers who will support your onboarding and knowledge transfer, as well as directly with the CTO.

You'll play a meaningful role in shaping how the team works - contributing ideas, improving processes, and helping drive modernisation across the platform.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and optimise Oracle and PostgreSQL databases
• Build and maintain custom integration layers
• Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration solutions
• Advanced SQL and PL/SQL development
• Data cleansing and quality activities to ensure data accuracy and integrity
• Contribute to improving and formalising best practice frameworks
• Work across legacy systems while driving modernisation

Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years' experience in data engineering
• Strong Oracle database experience
• Advanced SQL and query optimisation skills
• Solid ETL experience and proven ability to work with large, complex datasets
• Ability to design and normalise database structures
• Comfortable working in environments that are evolving toward best practice maturity
• Strong written English for documentation and technical communication

Desirable

• PostgreSQL experience
• Scripting or programming experience
• Exposure to both startup and enterprise environments
• Oracle APEX, cloud platforms, or BI/analytics experience
