Remote Primary Health Contracts - N4 & N5 Rural & Remote Nursing

The Opportunity

Take on a rewarding Remote Area Nurse (RAN) role delivering comprehensive primary health care and population health services to Indigenous communities across remote Australia. RANs work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and, in many locations, practise autonomously without a Doctor onsite, managing presentations independently while responding to emergency and on-call situations within the community.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Primary health care and emergency response
  • Acute and chronic disease management
  • Child and adult immunisations
  • Child and sexual health
  • Well-person screening
  • Maternity emergency care
  • Patient assessment, treatment planning, and health education
  • Clinical documentation and care coordination
  • On Call emergency Situations

These remote clinics rely heavily on experienced RANs and Nurse Unit Managers to assess, stabilise, manage, and refer patients appropriately in line with remote healthcare protocols and CARPA guidelines.

Essential Requirements: 

  • Current AHPRA Registered Nurse (Division 1)
  • Full Australian working rights
  • Recent Remote Area Nursing or remote Primary Health Care experience in Australia
  • Strong knowledge of CARPA guidelines is essential
  • Ability to work autonomously in isolated communities
  • Confidence managing emergencies and acute presentations
  • Experience working alongside Aboriginal Health Practitioners
  • Willing to travel interstate
  • Current manual driver licence

Essential Certifications & Training

  • Remote Emergency Care (REC) Certificate – CRANAplus or equivalent
  • Midwifery Emergency Care (MEC) Certificate – CRANAplus or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) / Advanced Life Support (ALS)  – Current certification required
  • Immunisation Provider Certificate – Including Understanding Vaccines and the National Immunisation Program
  • 4WD Manual Off-Road Driving Certificate – Experience and certification in manual 4WD remote/off-road driving
  • Ability to meet NT Health compliance requirements
