Head of Legal - Privacy and data

An Australian Big 4 Bank is seeking an experienced legal leader to head its Privacy & Data legal function during a period of significant transformation and investment.
Leading a team of six lawyers, you will play a key role in shaping the legal strategy around privacy, data protection, AI and emerging technologies across the enterprise. This is a highly visible role, partnering closely with senior executives and business leaders to support innovation while navigating an increasingly complex regulatory landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Privacy & Data lawyers.
• Drive legal strategy across privacy, data protection, AI and emerging technologies.
• Partner with executive stakeholders on enterprise-wide strategic initiatives.
• Provide commercially focused advice on complex regulatory and governance matters.
• Support the organisation's broader data and AI transformation agenda.
• Build capability and influence best practice across the enterprise.

About You
You may currently be a Head of Privacy, Head of Legal, Privacy, Chief Privacy Officer (legally qualified), Senior Privacy Counsel, or a Partner/Special Counsel specialising in privacy, cyber, technology or data law.

You will bring:

• Deep expertise in privacy, data protection and related regulatory frameworks.
• Strong leadership and people management experience.
• The ability to operate credibly at executive level and influence senior stakeholders.
• Excellent commercial judgement and strategic thinking.
• A genuine interest in the opportunities and challenges presented by AI and emerging technologies.
